Broncos Defeat Yale, Opitz Records 200th Career Victory

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Western Michigan men's tennis defeated Yale 4-2 in a non-conference match on Sunday to earn its sixth consecutive victory.

Senior Jannik Opitz earned his 200th career victory following a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles with sophomore Peter Kuszynski. Opitz has become just the sixth Bronco in program history to record this achievement. Freshman Arjun Honnappa and senior Kennosuke Nouchi secured the doubles point for the Broncos after prevailing over Michael Sun and Louis Siegler.

The Bulldogs took the first two singles matches to finish on the court to pull ahead of the Broncos by a 2-1 score. Opitz then tied the match at 2-2 with a straight set win against Dylan King (6-4, 6-2). Junior Zac Faveri and freshman Rodrigo Crespo closed out the match for WMU with singles victories, with Faveri's 6-3, 6-3 win versus Alan Sou clinching the contest for the Broncos.

The Broncos will host NCAA Division II opponent Wayne State on Sunday, March 15.
