Men's Tennis Downs Gonzaga 4-3 in Des Moines

Box Score DES MOINES, Iowa - After falling short in two consecutive 4-3 matches, the Western Michigan men's tennis team defeated Gonzaga by that same score in a neutral site contest in Des Moines, Iowa. With the victory, the Broncos have improved to 3-2 overall to start their non-conference slate in 2020. 

Western Michigan took two of the three doubles matches to jump out to an early 1-0 lead over the Bulldogs. Freshmen Arjun Honnappa and Rodrigo Crespo won their second straight contest, prevailing over Eric Hadigian and Oliver Anderson by a 6-3 score in #3 doubles. After Gonzaga won at the #1 position, Peter Kuszynski and Jack Randall clinched the doubles point for the Broncos, defeating Kyle Everly and Theo McDonald 7-1 in a game deciding set tie-breaker. 

The Broncos won three of the first four singles matches to finish to claim their third victory of the dual season. Kuszynski beat Kyle Everly in straight sets at #3 singles to secure the fourth point for his team. Senior Jannik Opitz earned his 184th career victory and is now ranked tenth all-time on the Bronco men's tennis overall wins list. Fellow senior Kennosuke Nouchi improved to 5-0 in singles this season after defeating Matthew Hollingworth in the #2 spot. 

WMU will stay on road next weekend, with non-conference matches against Illinois State on Saturday and Valparaiso on Sunday.
