Men's Tennis Falls in Hard-fought Battle at Iowa

Box Score IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Western Michigan men's tennis team was defeated by Iowa in a non-conference match 4-3 in Iowa City. With the setback, the Broncos fall to 2-2 overall on the season. 

The Hawkeyes were victorious in two of the three doubles matches to take the 1-0 lead over WMU. The freshmen duo of Rodrigo Crespo and Arjun Honnappa grabbed the only doubles win for the Broncos on the afternoon, defeating Kareem Allaf and Jason Kerst by a score of 6-4. 

The Broncos and Hawkeyes split the first four singles contests, with Iowa taking a 3-2 advantage in the process. Crespo and sophomore Jack Randall both earned convincing straight set wins over Jason Kerst and Will Davies of the Hawkeyes respectively.

#60 nationally ranked Kareem Allaf clinched the victory for Iowa, prevailing in three sets over senior Jannik Opitz. WMU senior Kennosuke Nouchi ended the day with a comeback win over Oliver Okonkwo in the #3 position (6-7, 7-5, 6-3). The Kashima, Japan native has now improved to 4-0 on the season in singles play for the Broncos. 

Western Michigan will close out its Hawkeye State road trip tomorrow morning against Gonzaga in Des Moines.
