WMU Falls in MAC Tournament Opener to No. 1 Miami

AKRON, Ohio - The No. 8 seeded Western Michigan softball team opened the 2019 Mid-American Conference Tournament Wednesday afternoon versus No. 1 seed Miami University, falling 2-0 at Firestone Stadium.

Miami's starting pitcher Courtney Vierstra went the distance in the pitcher's circle, limiting the Broncos to just three hits. A two-run fifth inning for the Redhawks was the difference, scoring a pair of runs on three two-out singles and a passed ball.

Eight Bronco runners were left on base, including a couple stranded on third base in the fifth and sixth innings, respectively. Logan Carter and Sydney Stefanick both doubled but weren't able to come around and score.

Stefanick suffered the loss for the Broncos despite a solid outing, conceding one earned run and five hits in six innings.
