Stefanick Leads WMU to Game One Win over Bowling Green

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Western Michigan softball team opened its Mid-American Conference series with a 2-0 victory over Bowling Green State University Friday afternoon at Ebert Field, backed by a complete game shutout by Sydney Stefanick.

Stefanick tossed her fifth complete game and third complete game shutout of the season, limiting the Falcons to just two base hits to improve her record to 7-7 on the year. Additionally, Stefanick recorded the game-winning run batted in.

In the first inning, Mackenzie Swinehart led off with a single up the middle and advanced to second after a wild pitch and to third following a Jenna Faultersack sacrifice bunt. Stefanick then hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Swinehart, the eventaual game-winning run.

The Bronco defense led by Stefanick's pitching sailed through the game in timely fashion, allowing just one more hit after the first inning while BGSU left four runners on base.

WMU added an insurance run in the sixth, an RBI single from Logan Carter that followed hits from Kaylen Glenfield and Brooke Wyman.

Swinehart and Carter led the Broncos with a pair of hits each.
