FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Western Michigan softball team defeated Purdue Fort Wayne 3-0 Tuesday afternoon as the Broncos' earned their fourth shutout victory of the year to improve their overall record to 13-19 on the season.Â
The Brown & Gold tallies runs in the fourth, sixth, and seventh innings while
Jordan Kurth and
Sydney Stefanick combined for the shutout in the pitcher's circle, limiting the Mastodons to seven base hits as they left 12 runners on base.Â
WMU scored the eventual game-winning run in the fourth inning. Stefanick led off the inning with a single and advanced into scoring position from a sacrifice bunt from
Kaylen Glenfield.
Erin Barg then brought Stefanick home with a single to left field for the game-winning RBI.Â
Stefanick relieved Kurth in the pitcher's circle in the bottom half of the fourth and recorded four scoreless innings while added her team-leading 10th home run of the season in the sixth inning to give WMU a 2-0 lead.Â
Maggie Kehoe pinch ran in the seventh and came around to score after an
Emma Nuyen double and a
Jenna Faultersack RBI groundout to grant the visitors a three-run cushion. Stefanick and the Broncos then shut the door in the bottom half, striking out the final Purdue Fort Wayne batter while escaping a bases-loaded jam.Â
Stefanick improved her record to 6-7 on the season.Â
