WMU Downs Toledo to Claim MAC Regular Season Title; Morin Tallies 400th Win

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Western Michigan men's tennis team closed out the 2019 regular season with a 5-2 win over the University of Toledo Friday, April 12 at West Hills Athletic Club to finish 7-0 in the Mid-American Conference while capturing the program's 25th MAC Regular Season Title. 

Head coach Dave Morin, the all-time wins leader in program history in his 23th season leading the Broncos, claimed his 400th career win at Western Michigan. 

The 2019 senior class of Lenhard Haupt, Kris Knof, Eric Olivarez Jr., Nick Schnobel, and Matej Svjetlicic were honored prior to the match during senior day for their contribution to the program. The group has now won three conference regular season championships.

WMU took the doubles points with wins at courts two and three. Seniors Lenhard Haupt and Nick Schnobel won 6-3 at the No. 3 spot to put the Broncos up 1-0. The Brown & Gold carried its momentum into singles play, winning the first four matches to clinch the victory. After going up 3-0 quickly with victories from Kennosuke Nouchi and Haupt on courts three and two, Jack Randall won at court six for the match-clinching point.

Up Next
For the 12th time in program history Western Michigan will host the 2019 MAC Tournament, next weekend, April 19-21, taking place at Sorensen Courts/West Hills Athletic Club. The Tournament has transitioned back to a six-team format for the first time since 2012, with the top two seeds receiving a bye straight to the semifinals. The Broncos previously hosted the tournament in 2017, falling to the No. 1 seed Buffalo 4-3 in the championship. WMU secured the top seed with a win last weekend.
