KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Western Michigan softball team earned a series win over in-state rival Central Michigan University with a 4-0 win Wednesday afternoon at Ebert Field, snapping a three-game losing skid while improving to 4-4 in the Mid-American Conference.Â
The Broncos and Chippewas previously split a doubleheader in Mount Pleasant, Mich., last Tuesday, April 2. WMU took game one 12-5 prior to an 11-3 triumph in favor of Central Michigan.Â
Sophomore
Reily Galloway went the distance in the pitcher's circle for the Brown & Gold, limiting CMU to just three hits during her first collegiate shutout.Â
Both offenses were held in check through four innings until the visitors began to threaten in the top half of the fifth. The Chippewas loaded the bases with nobody out after a pair of singles and a fielder's choice. However, the Bronco defense stood tall and escaped the jam with a pair of force outs at the plate followed by a groundout to Galloway for the third out.Â
WMU had recorded four hits and left three runners on base after being held scoreless until breaking out in the sixth inning. RBI singles by
Kaylen Glenfield and
Erin Barg gave the Broncos a two-run lead, knocking out CMU's starting pitcher. Barg then scored on a Chippewa error while
Brooke Wyman added a RBI groundout for the 4-0 advantage.Â
CMU placed a runner on to leadoff the seventh, but Galloway closed the door to earn the complete game shutout and improve her record to 4-6 on the season. Glenfield and
Logan Carter each notched a pair of base hits at the plate.Â
