KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Western Michigan men's tennis team hosted the University at Buffalo during its Mid-American Conference home opener Friday evening at West Hills Athletic Club, prevailing 4-3.Â
WMU improves to 11-7 overall and 3-0 in the MAC, as well as 8-1 on its home court.Â
After the Broncos and Bulls traded wins at courts one and two, Western Michigan clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win at No. 1 from the freshman duo of Peter Kuszynski and Jack Randall. WMU's No. 2 pair of Jannik Opitz and Kennosuke Nouchi earned their sixth-straight win to improve to 10-1 on the season.
Buffalo responded, opening singles action with wins on courts two and three to take a 2-1 lead. However, the Broncos had an answer, taking a pair of three-set victories to claim a 3-2 advantage.
Following a 6-1 loss in his first set, Kuszynski forced a third set versus Nickolas Frisk on court four and eventually won 7-5 in the third set to give the Brown & Gold the match-clinching point.
