KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Western Michigan men's tennis team concluded its competitive fall season by hosting the Mid American Conference Indoor Invite this weekend at the West Hills Athletic Club.
The Broncos combined for a record of 18-2 in singles competition, with senior
Jannik Opitz, seniorÂ
Kennosuke Nouchi, freshman
Rodrigo Crespo and freshman
Arjun Honnappa all winning their respective flights.
Opitz won draw #1 for the second consecutive season after going 3-0 against opponents from Ball State, Binghamton and Buffalo. Nouchi defeated Matthew Johnson from Buffalo in a thrilling three set victory to take the title in flight #2. Crespo and Honnappa combined for a perfect 6-0 record individually in their inaugural MAC Invite appearance. Junior

Jack Randall both won their final singles matches this morning, with Randall earning third place in the #3 bracket.Â
Western Michigan equaled its singles success in the doubles competition, with three pairs combining for a record of 8-1 with two titles.
The nationally ranked team of Opitz & Nouchi cruised through the #1 flight, outscoring their opponents 24-11 in games over three sets on Friday afternoon. The Bronco pair of Crespo & Randall also won their draw after picking up victories over teams from Buffalo and Binghamton, while Faveri & sophomore
Peter Kuszynski fell in the #2 flight final to Yu Yu & Ortega of Northern Illinois.Â
Overall, the Broncos combined for a record of 26-3 on the weekend, winning six of the nine draws. Western Michigan will open its 2020 season by hosting Butler and Illinois Chicago on Sunday, January 12 at the West Hills Athletic Club.Â
