IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Western Michigan men's tennis team suffered its first dual-match loss of 2019, falling 6-1 at Big Ten opponent University of Iowa on Saturday, Jan. 19. 

The Hawkeyes jumped out to a 1-0 lead, taking the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. WMU's third pair of Kennosuke Nouchi & Nick Schnobel won 6-2 over Piotr Smietana/Joe Tyler. 

Down 3-0 with losses at the No. 5 and 4 singles spots, Western Michigan bounced back with a Nouchi victory at No. 6, winning 6-4, 6-3 over Morgan Lohan. However, Jack Randall dropped a tough match at the No. 3 position for the home team's match-clinching point. Randall fell 4-6, 6-3, 3-6 to Oliver Okonkwo.

Western Michigan (2-1 overall) next heads to College Station, Texas Jan. 26-27 to compete in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend. WMU takes on No. 9-ranked Texas A&M on Saturday, Jan. 26 and will face the winner of Virginia and Cal the following day.
