COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Current Detroit Red Wing and Western Michigan hockey alum Danny DeKeyser will play for the United States in the upcoming International Ice Hockey Federation World Championships in Germany and France beginning May 5.

DeKeyser, who played at Western Michigan from 2000-2013, will be coached by former WMU head coach and his current coach in Detroit, Jeff Blashill. DeKeyser played in all 82 games this season for the Red Wings, scoring four goals and eight assists for 12 points. He appeared in 118 games with the Broncos and helped them to a Central Collegiate Hockey Conference Tournament Championship in 2012.

This is the second World Championship for the Detroit, Mich., native. In 2014 he played for USA and appeared in eight games while recording two assists.

DeKeyser could end up playing against current Western Michigan player Frederik Tiffels, who was called up to Team Germany for their pre-tournament games.
