MUNICH, Germany – Western Michigan hockey forward Frederik Tiffels has joined the German National Team for its pre-tournament games ahead of the 2017 International Ice Hockey Federation Championships, hosted by Germany.

Tiffels is coming off a junior season that saw him produce 21 points on nine goals and 12 assists as the Broncos made it to the NCAA Tournament for the sixth time in program history.

"We are very excited for Freddy," said head coach Andy Murray, who coached Team Canada to three IIHF World Championships. "He's earned this call up and it's a very special experience to get to represent your country. He'll be going up against some of the top players in the world."

The Cologne native was a fixture on the U-20 German team, appearing in three World Junior Championships. He played 19 total games and scored five goals and four assists for nine points.

Germany begins its pre-tournament games this week in Norway, playing on Friday and Saturday. The 2017 IIHF World Championships begins on May 5 and can be seen in the United States on the NHL Network and NBC Sports Network.
