STOCKBRIDGE, Ga., -- The Western Michigan women's golf team wrapped up the 2017 John Kirk Panther Invitational on Tuesday at Eagle's Landing Country Club with the Broncos jumping up two spots on the final day.

After a slow start, WMU once again improved and climbed the leaderboard to finish in ninth place. Day three was the best of the tournament for the squad, shooting a combined 304 to finish with a three-day total of 926 (+62). Julia Champion led the charge and finished -1 on the day after shooting a collegiate career-low round of 71.

"It wasn't our best week results wise, but it's nice to finish the tournament with another improved round," said head coach Elise Swartout-Mosher. "We know what we are capable of as a team and we are looking forward to a solid week of practice to get ready for our next tournament. We will continue to build on what we have learned."

Champion shot 77's the first two rounds and finished with a combined total of 225 (+9) and tied for 14th. The Markham, Ontario native finished third in the tournament in par three scoring at 2.92 (-1) and second in pars with 37.

Freshman Jasmine Chee finished with a 76 for the second-straight day and completed the tournament with a 230 (+14) to tie for 32nd. Kaitlyn Watkins matched her second round score of 78 to finish with a combined score of 237 (+21). She was joined by fellow senior Anna Wilcoxson, who shot a 79 on the final day to finish at 237. Just two strokes behind the pair was Claire Hernandez, finishing with a 239.

The Broncos have a week off before heading to the Indiana Invitational, hosted by the Hoosiers, on April 8-9.
