LAS VEGAS – The Western Michigan golf team wrapped up the 2017 Jackrabbit Invitational with a pair of third-place finishes on Saturday.
The Broncos took third overall after a three-round score of 904 (295-310-299), while junior Julia Champion tied for third place, finishing with a score of 222 (72-73-77). It's the third top-three finish for Champion, who also claimed the medalist spot at the Toledo Classic and the Silver Lake Shootout. Champion was third in the tournament in par four scoring (+4), tied for second in par five scoring (-3) and third in birdies with 10.
"A solid day of golf for the team today," said head coach Elise Swartout-Mosher. "We learned a lot this week that we can immediately put into our practices. We are focused on continuing to work on our process to create more consistency overall."
Freshman Jasmine Chee and senior Kaitlyn Watkins both finished at +11 after a score of 227 to finished tied for 10th. Chee finished off her three rounds with a 73 on Saturday, after shooting a 73 and an 81 on Friday. Watkins had a steady weekend, shooting a 74, a 78 and finishing up with a 75.
Senior Anna Wilcoxson finished in 19th after shooting a 232 (+19). After shooting a 76 and 78 on the first day of competition, she finished with another 78. Claire Hernandez moved up eight spots from Friday to finish tied for 29 after a 239 (+23). Hernandez's big jump came after shooting a 74 on Saturday.
WMU now has a week off before heading to Stockbridge, Ga. And the John Kirk Panther Invitational.
