KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan golf team is hosting the inaugural KZoo Classic at The Moors Golf Club in Portage, Mich., on Monday and Tuesday.
WMU welcomes Ball State, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Cleveland State, Davenport, Detroit, Eastern Michigan, Fort Wayne and Ohio to its home course. The Moors is a par 72 and measures out at 6,163 yards. The first round begins at 9:30 a.m. and is followed by the second round later in the afternoon. The third round starts at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning. Live scoring will be available at www.birdiefire.com.
"The Moors is an excellent tournament course and we are excited to host the KZoo Classic with them," said first-year head coach Elise Swartout-Mosher. "There are challenging holes throughout the course but it also rewards good golf shots. The support of the athletic department, The Moors and the community has been wonderful and we are excited to host a tournament in our hometown."
The Broncos are off to a great start in the 2016-17 season under Swartout-Mosher. WMU started off the season taking third place at the Ball State Cardinal Classic. Senior Kaitlyn Watkins finishing runner-up after setting the individual 54-hole low record of 214. WMU's combined score of 885 also broke the program record for the 54-hole low team score.
Last weekend Western Michigan competed at the Mary Fossum Invitational, hosted by Michigan State, and finished tied for fifth place with Akron. Watkins and fellow senior Anna Wilcoxson finished tied for 16th.
SPECTATOR GUIDELINES
The Moors Golf Club asks any fans attending the KZoo Classic to please follow the following guidelines
- - Golf carts will only be available to handicap spectators with the proper documentation.
- Please walk on the cart paths when available.
- Please stay at least 15 feet from the competitors at all times.
