KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan golf team heads to Silver Lake, Ohio and the Silver Lake Golf Course for the 2016 Silver Lake Shootout hosted by Akron on Monday and Tuesday.
WMU will compete against the host Zips, Ohio, Bowling Green and Central Michigan at the site of the 2017 Mid-American Conference Championships.
"We are looking forward to playing Silver Lake for the MAC Preview," said head coach Elise Swartout-Mosher. "Our main emphasis is getting a feel for how to strategically play the course. Learning as much as we can and taking good notes will help us best prepare for the MAC Championship in the Spring. That's what these 54 holes are all about. "
The Broncos have had a great Fall season with four top-five finishes, including a second place finish at the Rocket Classic back on Oct. 10-11. WMU has earned two MAC Golfer of the Week awards, taken by Kaitlyn Watkins and Julia Champion. Champion has had the best individual performance of any Bronco, claiming the medalist spot in the Rocket Classic.
Silver Lake Golf Course is a 6,117-yard par-72 course. The shotgun start begins at 9 a.m.
