Box Score 2 KALAMAZOO, Mich.- The Western Michigan softball team began their home season in Kalamazoo with a doubleheader sweep over Buffalo Friday.
The Broncos scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth to complete a 5-4 comeback in game one and finished the day with a 5-3 victory in game two.
The Broncos and Bulls will meet for a final game three this weekend Saturday at 1 p.m. If weather does not permit the game to be played Saturday, the contest will be moved to Sunday at 1 p.m. Updates will be posted on wmubroncos.com.
With the pair of victories, Western Michigan improved its record to 12-16 overall and 3-2 in the Mid-American Conference. Buffalo fell to 9-22 and 3-2 in the MAC.
HIGHLIGHTS:
• Freshman first baseman Brooke Wyman batted 2-for-3 in game one and pushed the go-ahead run across with a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth.
• Buffalo scored all four of its runs in game one in the top of the third. WMU scored all five of its runs in the bottom of the sixth. Junior Erin Binkowski hit a two-run single during the rally.
• Senior Allyson Kus (7-9) registered the win in game one and picked up her first save of the season in game two, throwing an inning of relief. Kus had seven strikeouts on the day.
• Freshman Jordan Kurth (4-4) allowed just one earned run over six innings in game two to earn the win. She struck out five.
• WMU scored four of its five runs in game two in the bottom of the fifth. Junior Kelsea Cichocki hit a two-run single to pull WMU ahead 3-2. Junior Abby Stoner followed with a two-run home run, her third home run of the season.
• Sophomore catcher Gabby Schefka went 2-for-2 in game two. Ivy Schaaf, Melissa Palmer and Sabrina Gamboa each had a hit in both games.
