WMU Softball Drops Final Game at Troy Cox Classic

LAS CRUCES, N.M.- The Western Michigan softball team fell in its final game at the Troy Cox Classic to host New Mexico State Sunday, 8-0.

The Broncos kicked off the 2016 season this weekend at the classic, going 1-4 over five games. WMU squared off against New Mexico State twice, as well as Campbell, Creighton and No. 14 ranked Oklahoma. The Broncos picked up a 4-3 victory over Campbell on Friday.

Western Michigan couldn't get much offense going against New Mexico State in the finale Sunday, generating just two hits. Freshman first baseman Skylar Sobeski singled to left field in the second inning and freshman Brooke Wyman had a pinch hit single to right field in the fifth.

Sophomore pitcher Anissa Sanchez (0-1) took the loss, throwing an inning and a third.

The Broncos head to the Kennesaw State Tournament, Feb. 26-28, for games against Kennesaw State, Alabama A&M and UT-Martin.
