LOUISVILLE, KENT. – The Western Michigan cross country team finished in 16^th place out of 35 teams of the unseeded women's 6k race without the efforts of sophomore Maria McDaniel, who ran in the seeded race earlier in the day. The race was at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park, the same course that the NCAA Championships is on.

“We had some really good performances despite the fact that as a group our start was not where we wanted to be because in a race this size by the 1k mark you should be close to where you want to finish, but despite that fact the women ran really well through the field in the second half,” Assistant Coach Rebekah Smeltzer said. “We learned a lot this meet and are excited for the next two weeks of practice to finish on some final tune-ups before the MAC Championships.”

In the seeded race, McDaniel finished in 25^th place out of 311 runners with a time of 20:31.3 while Erin Clark of Colorado won the race with a time of 20:00.5.

In the unseeded race, five Broncos set a new personal record in Sarah Anderson, Hanne Christensen, Makenzie Evers, Claire Gilbert and Amy Littlefield as the Broncos finished with a 405 team score and Washington State took first with a score of 176. . Anderson led the way as she finished in 52^nd place (21:49.6) while Christensen took 58^th (21:58.2) and Gilbert came in 83^rd (22:10.9). Daya Wagh finished in 102^nd (22:21.8), Littlefield 110^th (22:28.9), Evers 184^th (23:21.7) and Renee Letz 227^th (24:46.2). Allie Buchalski of Furman won the race with a time of 20:17.2.  

The Broncos return to action with the MAC Championships on Oct. 31 hosted by Akron University.
