WMU Softball Plays Five Games in Five Days

The Broncos close out the regular season with three non-conference games and their home finale against Northern Illinois. 

WMU travels to Valparaiso, which leads the Horizon League by three games, for a doubleheader on Wednesday followed by a single game on Thursday at Michigan State.  The Broncos close out the home and regular season against Mid-American Conference West Division rival Northern Illinois on Saturday and Sunday as they position themselves for another run in the MAC Tournament (May 9-12).

Western Michigan went 1-3 this past weekend, splitting with a surging Toledo team and suffering a pair of losses to MAC East Division leader Bowling Green.  Over the weekend, Meredith Whitney matched a career high with six RBIs against Toledo, giving her 81 for her career, ranking third in program history.  WMU is currently second in the MAC West and is guaranteed a spot in next week's MAC Tournament.

Western Michigan closes out its non-conference schedule with a doubleheader at Valparaiso on May 2 (4/6 p.m. ET) and then a showdown with in-state rival Michigan State on May 3 ... The Broncos secured a spot in the 2012 MAC Tournament with their 11-3 win at Toledo on April 27 ... Meredith Whitney tied a career high with six RBIs against Toledo, giving her 81 on her career, tying for third all-time with Amanda Heckaman (2004-07) in program history ... Whitney passed Kent State's Brittney Robinson on the MAC career strikeouts list and now has 683 ... she is 17 Ks from becoming the fourth pitcher in MAC history with 700 and needs 41 to move into fourth place ... WMU will honor its senior class prior to the start of its season finale against Northern Illinois at 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 6 ... WMU needs two more wins to reach 25 in a season for the sixth time under head coach Kathy Leitke ... WMU needs seven more wins to reach 30 in a season for the 12th time in program history.
