WMU Softball Drops Two at Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Broncos fought hard in a pair of games a Mid-American Conference East Division leader Bowling Green, but fell in both, 4-0 and 2-1, on Sunday.

BGSU took control of the opener with a pair of home runs in the fourth inning, one solo and another two-run shot.  An infieild single in the third opened the scoring for the Falcons.

Meredith Whitney struck out 10 or more batters for the third-straight start, fanning 10 in the opener despite taking the loss.  Whitney's sixth K of the game put her fifth in the career MAC strikeouts list, passing Kent State's Brittney Robinson.  She now has 683 career punch outs.

WMU scored its only run of the day in the fifth inning of game two, trailing 2-0.  Myranda McDonald doubled to center and Becca Shemberger followed with a base hit, putting runners on the corners.  Allie Carlson's ground out, drove in McDonald to cut BGSU's lead in half.

The Falcons shut down the Broncos' offense from there, sitting down WMU batters in order over the final two innings.

Western Michigan steps out of conference for the final time this season with a doubleheader at Valparaiso before hosting Northern Illinois in the final series of the regular season this weekend.
