ANN ARBOR -- The Western Michigan softball season has come to an end after the Broncos fell, 4-0, to Notre Dame in the first elimination game of the NCAA Regional Championships at the University of Michigan on Saturday afternoon.

The Fighting Irish (46-10) were on the board early, scoring a run in the top of the first inning. Alexa Moldonado tripled to center to lead off the game and was driven in on a sacrifice fly by Heather Johnson to give Notre Dame a 1-0 lead.

Notre Dame added an a pair of insurance runs in the top of the sixth inning on a solo home run by Brianna Jorgensborg and a RBI double by Alexia Clay, to push the lead to 3-0.

The Fighting Irish added a run in the top of the seventh on a looping single over second base by Alexia Clay to put ND up 4-0.

Western Michigan (25-30) threatened in the bottom of the second inning. Courtney Rousseau led off with a double off the left field wall. Kayla Houston drew a walk and then Allie Carlson executed a sacrifice bunt to move the runners to second and third but that's as far as they would get. Jennifer Tschetter and Michelle Bendewald both struck out to end the threat.

WMU loaded the bases in the bottom of the third after an infield hit by Lexi Jager and two walks by Tara Buchanan and Rousseau, but were left stranded.

The Broncos picked up three straight two-out singles in the bottom of the fifth from Buchanan, Barstad and Rousseau to load the bases but Houston popped out to the catcher to end the inning.

Rousseau finished with two hits and a walk to lead the Broncos but WMU stranded 11 runners on the day.
