COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Western Michigan softball team fell to #16 Missouri, 10-1, in five innings in a game that started on Saturday but ended on Sunday afternoon due to poor weather. Before WMU could finish its game with the Tigers, the Broncos fell to Minnesota, 3-0, on Sunday morning.
#16 Missouri broke the game open very early, scoring 10 runs on eight hits in the first inning. Missouri's Ashley Fleming scored twice in the frame and drove in five runs with a double to left center field and then hit a two-out grand slam later in the first.
Western Michigan scored its lone run in the first as well when Tara Buchanan ripped a one out single to center field, scoring Courtney Rousseau who led off the inning with a walk. Michelle Bendewald also recorded a hit in the first with an infield single.
The Broncos had three hits against Minnesota in the morning game but could not scratch a run across home plate. Buchanan collected her second hit of the day with a single in the fourth. Rousseau singled through the left side and Lexi Jager collected a base hit up the middle in the sixth.
