WAGNER BOX SCORE
CENTRAL FLORIDA BOX SCORE
TEMPE, Ariz.
? In day two of the 2009 Kajikawa Classic, the Broncos (2-2) picked up their
first win of the season with a 1-0 victory over Wagner and unleashed the bats
against Central Florida on their way to a 10-1 triumph in five innings. After two losses on opening day, the Broncos
have battled their way back to .500 on the season with one game left in the
tournament.
In game one against Wagner, the Broncos' lone run came in
the second inning when senior Brittney Reist singled to left field to knock in freshman
Gracie Barstad, who reached on base due to an error and advanced into scoring
position after a sacrifice bunt by senior Samantha Vargocko.
The Seahawks were unable to get on the board thanks to a
complete game effort in the circle by freshman Meredith Whitney, who allowed
just three hits and struck out six batters, two of which came in the bottom of
the seventh inning with a runner in scoring position.
The second game of the day wasn't nearly as heart wrenching
for the Broncos due to a five run first inning and five run third inning. The Broncos were extremely productive against
the Knights, with seven batters tallying at least one hit and only leaving two
runners on base. WMU totaled nine hits in the game, two of which came from Whitney,
who had three RBIs, and junior Meghan Thomas, who knocked in four runs. Thomas
(1-0) also received the win after allowing just two hits and one earned run in
four innings in the circle.
The fifth and final game of the tournament, scheduled to be played against Texas Tech on Sunday, was canceled due to rain.
