KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Western Michigan capped one of its best Mid-American Conference seasons ever with an 8-2 victory over Toledo at Ebbert Field. WMU finished its regular season with a 31-13 mark, and by virtue of its 18-4 league record, enters as the top seed for the MAC Tournament starting this week in Midland, Mich.
"I thought our offensive attack started a little slow, but we chipped with hits and were eventually able to open the game up," said coach Kathy Leitke, whose team took three of four games this weekend. "We played all 22 players on our roster, which will be a huge plus for us going into the MAC Tournament."
WMU exchanged runs with Toledo (13-40, 4-17 MAC) in the first inning, then added a pair in the third on RBI singles from Amanda Heckaman and Tricia VanDerSlik. The Broncos scored three more runs in the fourth, aided by a two-run double from Kristi Strange.
