Alexander Washington

Gary, Indiana
- All-American hurdler placing tenth in 1983 and sixth in 1985 in 110-meter highs at NCAA outdoor championships and earned 1985 indoor All-American honors for 55-meter highs.
- Won Mid-American Conference championships in 1983-85. Still holds WMU high hurdles records for outdoor 110 meters (:13.64) and indoor 55 meters (:07.19).
- Reached semifinal round of 1984 and 1988 United States Olympic Trials, missing final by 1/100 of a second the latter year.
- Competed for national teams and won 1987 Pacific Coast Games in meet record time of (:13.5). Ran for a Karamu Track Club team of Philadelphia that set a world shuttle hurdle relay record in 1988.
- A practicing musician since 1988 and founder of the popular reggae recording group the Jah Kings. Joined Van Buren County Juvenile Court as a case worker in 1992 and earlier served as a youth counselor for two Kalamazoo agencies. Currently as Intake Referee.

Sue Weigand-Byron

- A four-time All-MAC selection (1981-84)
- Weigand-Byron was the first woman singles player in MAC history selected to the NCAA Tournament accomplishing that feat in 1984.
- Won MAC titles in No. 1 singles (1981), No. 2 singles (194) and No. 1 doubles (1981, 83).
- A two-time conference runner-up in both singles and doubles.
- Weigand-Byron won more singles matches (110) than anyone in program history and ranks second all-time in victories with 183.
- Her 30 singles triumphs during the 1984 seasons are the No. 3 single-season total.
“Scotty” Wilson

- Lettered three times as a shortstop on Bronco teams that were 40-20-2 overall, won three Mid-American Conference championships with a combined 23-3 mark and made three NCAA tournament appearances. Captained 1951 team.
- Played professionally in St. Louis Browns minor league system before being called to army duty during the Korean War. Discharged with the rank of second lieutenant.
- Taught and coached at South Junior High in Kalamazoo and spent 12 years at Central High School as a physical education teacher, head baseball and junior varsity (1960-65) and head basketball coach (1966-72). Was Portage Central High’s basketball coach (1972-80) and athletic director (1980-87).
- His teams won eight conference championships and his 1966 basketball squad reached the state Class A semifinals. Also, served two years (1970-72) as a zone manager for the Upjohn Company Health Care program.
- Volunteer assistant coach with Bronco baseball team (1989-96). Alumni “W” club “man of the year” in 1987.

- Owns .738 winning percentage, which ranks second for those who are in the top 20 on the all-time win’s list
- Recorded 20-match win streak at No. 1 singles
- Highest final ranking for a men’s tennis player at WMU (No. 48)
- Has been ranked as high as No. 23 nationally in the 48 and over age category

- Played first base and pitched for Bronco softball squads that competed in three Women’s College World Series and went 163-48-1 over four years.
- Compiled a career pitching mark of 46-19-1 with .76 earned run average and set then school record marks for innings pitched (505 2/3) and games played (175).
- In basketball, earned AIAW All-State selection three times and became fourth women’s player in school history to score over 1,000 career points (1,025).
- Was named Western’s head softball coach in 1988 after serving for five years as assistant coach. Four of her eight teams finished third in the Mid-American Conference.
- Alumni “W” club’s first recipient of the “women of the year” award in 1989.
Doug Wyn

- Three-time All American, winning NCAA 167-pound championship in 1974, going 30-0 against collegiate opponents. Second and fifth in same weight class at 1973 and 1972 nationals.
- Had a 89-15 career record and set school marks for wins and pins (29).
- Only, Western wrestler ever to win three Mid-American Conference titles and was “outstanding wrestler” of 1973 and 1974 tournaments.
- Spent several years with Northern Air Services of Grand Rapids as a flight instructor and pilot.
- Joined Grand Rapids Control Services in 1982 where he was involved in sales, hi-tech engineering and design work.
Pete Wysocki

Garden City, Michigan
- Second-team All-Mid-American Conference linebacker and Western’s top defensive player in 1968
- Played professionally in the Canadian Football League with Toronto, Hamilton and Saskatchewan and was All-CFL in 1974
- Joined National Football League’s Washington Redskins in 1975 and played for six seasons, achieving notoriety as a special teams player. Later, he earned a starting linebacker position.
- Following retirement from football he moved into broadcasting, the commercial real estate business, motivational speaking and is a sponsored racing cyclist.
- Currently a vice president of the Carey Winston Company.
