  • First-team All-American shortstop in 1961 and second-team selection the previous year, hitting for respective averages of .381 and .327
  • Member of 1959 and 1961 Mid-American Conference championship teams that advanced to the third round of the NCAA tournament. Had 94 hits, 54 runs and 44 RBI over 79 career games.
  • Played parts of six seasons with Minnesota Twins and was member of 1965 American League championship club.
  • Manager of Twins for three seasons and was only 34 years old when he assumed that position after being elevated from coach.
  • Later was radio broadcaster and successful insurance executive in Twin Cities.
