  • Played on silver-medal winning U.S. team at the 1977 World University Games in Bulgaria.
  • Was twice honorable mention All-American (1978, 1980), a Kodak All-Region pick (1980) and played in the initial Women’s All-American Classic in Philadelphia (1977).
  • One of 15 nominees for the 1981 Wade Award, honoring the nation’s top player.
  • Only WMU women’s basketball player to record at least 1,000 career points (1,542) and 1,000 (1,028) rebounds and set Bronco record for career field goals (700) and season rebounds (296, 1978). Still owns latter three standards while her career scoring record stood for 14 years.
  • Worked as assistant coach at WMU (1982-87) and at Arizona (1988-90) before being named head coach of the Western Michigan program in 1991. Her 1994 and 1995 teams reached semifinals of Mid-American Conference tournament.

  • Unanimous first-team All Mid-American Conference in 1961 and selected to play in the All-American Bowl after completing 73 passes for 1,109 yards both WMU records at the time.
  • Played professionally with Canadian Football League’s Ottawa Rough Riders and the American Football League’s New York Jets. Player-coach for Grand Rapids (Mich.) Blazers and Wheeling (W. Va.) Ironmen of Continental Football League.
  • Collegiate football coaching assistant at Eastern Michigan and Notre Dame and head coach at Eastern Michigan (1976-77), Boston College (1978-80) and Kent State (1981-82).
  • Served as offensive coordinator of CFL’s Toronto Argonauts, helping squad win Grey Cup and latter held same position with the Oklahoma Outlaws of the World Football League.
  • Sales manager for Terrace Incorporated of Naples, Florida

  • All Mid-American Conference football end in 1949 with seven touchdown catches and team captain in 1950.
  • After Army duty, coached basketball and assisted in football at South Haven (1955-56) and Allen Park (1956-58) High Schools.
  • Served Western Michigan University (1958-91) as an assistant coach, athletic administrator and physical education staff member, retiring as an associate professor.
  • Athletic administrative assistant (1966-68) and later assistant and associate athletic director for 21 years.
  • Acting athletic director in 1980-81 as Western Michigan won the Reese Cup for men’s all-sports supremacy in the Mid-American Conference.

Tom Cole

  • Had a 14-3 record, a 2.00 earned run average and struck out 112 batters over 120 innings while pitching two Mid-American championship teams.
  • All-MAC first-team in 1952 as that club tied for third place at College World Series.
  • Long-time physical education, recreation and athletic consultant for Flint Community schools and directed this organization from 1957-63.
  • Long-time commissioner of baseball for Genesse County with responsibilities for youth and adult programs.
  • Charter member of Flint Sports Hall of Fame, the Baseball Sandlotters of Michigan, the Greater Flint Hockey Association and the Flint Recreation Commission.

Horace “Hap” Coleman Sr.

  • First Western footballer to win two most valuable player awards and his 20 career touchdowns were then second-highest Bronco total ever.
  • Scored then school record 12 touchdowns in leading 1941 squad to 8-0 season.
  • Sprinter and quarter-miler in track and ran on some of the top relay units in the Midwest.
  • Long-time teacher, counselor and administrator in Detroit Public School system and recognized as the state’s “elementary counselor of the year.”
  • Member of Western’s 75th anniversary (1906-81) football team.

Lovell Coleman

  • During Bronco running back career gained 1,918 rushing yards-a WMU record that went unsurpassed for over a decade.
  • A 1959 Williamson All-American and an All Mid-American Conference first-team pick in 1958, second-team choice in 1957 and honorable mention in 1959.
  • Entering the 1990s, still owned the school single-game record for rushing yards (279) and was third in WMU career touchdown (30) as well as the Mid-American Conference career leader for best kickoff (27.8) and punt return (23.4) averages.
  • Enjoyed 10-year career with Canadian Football League and was CFL’s leader for rushing (1,392) and scoring (13) touchdowns in 1963 and was a member of the Ottawa Rough Riders 1968 Grey Cup championship team.
  • Owner and operator of a construction company in Vancouver, British Colombia.

  • Placed fifth, second and first in Michigan Intercollegiate cross country championships, helping Western win three team titles.
  • Won 1924 state indoor mile and outdoor two-mile races in track.
  • Held school indoor and outdoor mile and outdoor two-mile records with best times of 4:31.4 and 10:04.
  • Spent 25 years in Maywood, Illinois, school system as a teacher, physical education director, principal and supervisor of education.
  • Continued in education in Centerville until retiring in early 1970s.

John Cook

  • Won Mid-American Conference No. 1 singles and doubles three time each. One of two players in league history to win top singles three times.
  • Had a 76-19 career singles/doubles record. Reached singles round of 16 the best showing ever by a Bronco, at 1958 NCAA Tournament and was honorable mention All-American.
  • Has been a teaching pro for over 30 years, holding over 10 at Queen City Racket Club in Cincinnati.
  • Named USPTA’s “pro of the year” for Michigan (1973), Midwest (1976) and Ohio (1980).
  • Has worked with players who have won a combined 40 national titles.

Joe Cooper

  • Outfielder with .327 career batting average and scored 32 runs in 41 games.
  • Led 1948 team with a .361 average and into WMU’s first-ever NCAA tournament appearance.
  • Served Marshall Public School system as a teacher, coach, counselor, principal, athletic director and assistant principal (1948-83).
  • Compiled baseball coaching record of 234-140.
  • Involved for over 30 years with the American Amateur Baseball Congress and held posts of president and vice president,

  • Spent 36 years in Bronco Athletics holding several titles from head athletics trainer to Senior Associate AD for Medical Services
  • Worked with, mentored, and made lasting impacts on thousands of WMU Student-Athletes from every sport program
  • Served on the Western Michigan University's Council of Institutional Diversity and Multiculturalism
  • Represented the Athletic Department as a member of the Campus Climate for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Tactical Action Committee
  • Recognized as the MATS Distinguished Athletic Trainer (2009)
  • Inducted into the Michigan Athletic Trainers Society (MATS) Hall of Fame (2014)
  • Won the MAC Diversity and Inclusion Award (2018)

  • Played baseball and football at Kalamazoo College and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and Korean Conflict.
  • Sports information director (1957-67) and athletic business manager (1967-81).
  • Secretary-treasurer (1964-76) and president (1966) of College Sports Information Directors of America, charter member of CoSIDA Hall of Fame (1969) and organization’s 1967 Arch Ward Award winner.
  • Also, won top annual awards from Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and American Baseball Coaches Association.

  • Amassed 1,207 points in two seasons, ranking 15th all-time in WMU history
  • First Team All-MAC in 1979-80 and Second Team All-MAC in 1978-79
  • Led MAC in scoring in 1980 at 24.2 points per game, third highest single season average in program history
  • 630 points in 1980 ranks fourth all-time at WMU in a single season
  • Drafted by Utah Jazz in 1980

  • Member of United States silver medal winning basketball team at the 1973 World University Games in Moscow and was finalist at the 1976 U.S. Olympic Trials.
  • Scored 1,235 career points and was the first Western women’s player to top 1,000 plateau. Also set then school record for free throws (261), rebounds (833) and field goals (487).
  • Member of U.S. volleyball training squad in 1973 and is one of seven players selected for WMU pre-1984 era team.
  • Spent three years as a physical education instructor and basketball and volleyball coach at Dowagiac Union High School.
  • Later coached basketball, volleyball and softball at Hillsdale College. Was Great Lakes Intercollegiate basketball and NAIA District 23 volleyball “coach of the year.”

  • Western Michigan’s all-time leader in career field goal percentage with .595 career mark.
  • Ranks second all-time in rebounds (947), sixth in games played (106), No. 10 in blocks (46) and No. 12 on the Bronco career points list (1,178).
  • Averaged 12.9 ppg and 10.6 rpg, during the 1975-76 season.
