KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan golf team travels to Bowling Green for the 2018 Dolores Black Falcon Invitational at Stone Ridge Golf Club on Saturday and Sunday.
The tournament will be the final one for the Broncos before the 2018 Mid-American Conference Championship. WMU will battle against Akron, Ball State, BGSU, Central Michigan, Cleveland State, Detroit, Eastern Michigan, Findlay, Illinois-Chicago, Indianapolis, Lawrence, Oakland, Ohio, Toledo and Youngstown State. The Rockets are the top-ranked team in the field, coming in at 95 in the latest Golfstat rankings. The course measures out to 5,829 yards and is a par of 72.
"This weekend will be a great opportunity for us to play some good golf," said head coach Elise Swartout-Mosher. "We had a productive week of practice and are ready with our game plan. This is a strong field with multiple teams from the MAC and we are looking forward to a good weekend."
In addition to the strong field, the Broncos will have to battle the elements. Despite the recent snowy weather, the forecast is for clear and partly cloudy. However, the temperature is likely to be in the low 40's.
WMU is looking to rebound after a rough outing at the John Kirk/Panther Intercollegiate down in Georgia on March 25-27. The Broncos finished in 16th. Overall, Western Michigan has had five finishes in the top six this season, including third place finishes at the KZoo Classic and the Shirley Spork EMU Invitational. WMU also claimed its first tournament win since 2011 after finishing at the top at the Low Country Invitational.
The Broncos have next week off before heading to the MAC Championship on April 20-22.
