Women’s Tennis Treks to Akron and Buffalo this Weekend

KALAMAZOO, Mich.- The Western Michigan women's tennis team (11-7) beings its four-match road trip this weekend with a pair of Mid-American Conference contests. The Broncos begin the stretch at Akron on Friday, April 6 before making the trip to Buffalo on Sunday, April 8. First serve for both matches is set for 1 p.m.

The Brown & Gold won their opening games of MAC play last weekend against Northern Illinois (5-2) and Eastern Michigan (4-3) all while improving their home record to 9-1.
 
Junior Denise Azcui, redshirt senior Barbare Eristavi, junior Katja Fevralev and junior Melina Lyubomirova all are tied for the team lead in dual match wins with 11. Lyubomirova has a 6-4 record at the No. 1 and is currently on a five-match win streak while Azcui is the second Bronco with a five-match win streak right now. In doubles, the Broncos are 27-23 overall in dual matches. The duo of Fevralev and Lyubomirova hold a 5-6 doubles record at the No. 1, which leads the team.
 
Akron, who enters the weekend at 12-10 overall and 1-3 in conference, fell to Bowling Green and Miami last time out. The Bulls, who took home the 2017 MAC Tournament title, hold an undefeated record in league play at 4-0 and are 11-3 overall. Their three losses have come to the hands of St. John's, West Virginia and Penn State but Buffalo hasn't dropped a match since Feb. 25 as the Broncos look to do so on Sunday.
 
WMU remains on the road next weekend with a match at Ball State, the 2017 MAC Regular Season Champions, on Friday, April 13 before concluding its extensive road trip at Toledo on Sunday, April 15.
