Softball Edged by Central Michigan, 5-2

Box Score KALAMAZOO, Mich.- The Western Michigan softball team dropped a 5-2 decision to Central Michigan at home on Tuesday. The two teams were scheduled to play two games, but poor weather postponed the second game. WMU and CMU will now play a doubleheader in Mount Pleasant on April 11 to finish the three-game Mid-American Conference series.

The Chippewas took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, scoring on a leadoff single and an RBI double. CMU used four hits to extend its lead to 4-0 with three runs in the top of the third.

Western Michigan cut the deficit in half, scoring two runs in the bottom half of the fourth. Brooke Wyman and Samantha Coffel started off the inning with back-to-back doubles. Coffel picked up an RBI. She later scored after a groundout and a sacrifice fly by Jenna Faultersack.

Central Michigan tacked on a final run off a solo home run in the fifth for a 5-2 final.

Senior Anissa Sanchez took the loss in the pitcher's circle for Western Michigan. Sanchez allowed three runs over 2.2 innings.

Taylor Weaver threw four innings to earn the win for CMU. Laura Vaccaro pitched three innings in relief for the save.

Coffel batted 2-for-3 in the game with two doubles.

Western Michigan welcomes Akron this weekend, April 7 & 8, for a three-game MAC series. Game one is Friday at 3 p.m., followed by two games Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m. Players will be available after the games to sign autographs and meet with fans.
