Golf Finishes Sixth at MAC Championships; Champion Named Second Team All-MAC

NAPERVILLE, Ill., -- The Western Michigan golf team wrapped up the 2018 Mid-American Conference Championship, tying for sixth place at the Naperville Country Club on Sunday afternoon.

Senior Julia Champion was WMU's top finisher on the day and tied for 11th after shooting a combined score of 227 (+11). Champion also became the 11th Bronco in program history to earn All-MAC honors, after being voted to Second Team honors by the league's coaches.

"It was a great end to the day for Julia to be voted Second Team All-MAC," said head coach Elise Swartout-Mosher. "She had a solid year for us from start to finish and we will miss her very much next year."

Champion was sixth in par four scoring, finishing with an average a 4.07. She also had a team-high 36 pars and six birdies. She ends her WMU career tied for second-most individual medalists with three.

Sophomore Jasmine Chee was the second finisher for the Broncos, tying for 21st with a three-round total of 236 (+20). Freshman Cameryn Lucia finished just five strokes behind Chee with a 241 (+25), while fellow freshman Megan Watkins wrapped up her first career MAC Championship with a 251 (+35). Claire Hernandez rounded out WMU's top five with a 255 (+39).
