TOLEDO, Ohio – The Western Michigan men's tennis team swept Toledo on the road on Saturday afternoon to conclude the Mid-American Conference regular season undefeated, the first time since the 2010-11 season. With the victory the Broncos wrap up regular season play on a nine-match winning streak to finish 20-4 overall and 7-0 in the league.

The Broncos got things started early, clinching the doubles point at No. 2 & 3 in that order. Seniors
Billy Heckman and
Maik Steiner defeated Carranza/Olmedo 6-4 at No. 3 to clinch the point and earn their third conference victory together this season. Juniors
Nick Schnobel and
Eric Olivarez also picked up a victory at the two spot for WMU, finishing a perfect 7-0 in MAC play.
Western Michigan continued to roll through singles play as
Kennosuke Nouchi got things started off at No. 4 with a 6-2, 6-1 win.
Matej Svjetlicic sealed a perfect 7-0 record in the conference with a straight set win at six while sophomore
Jannik Opitz clinched the win for the Broncos at two with a straight set victory. Along with Svjetlicic, Opitz also finished 7-0 in MAC play.
Steiner continued his strong play at No. 1 with a three-set victory over Vince Anzalone to finish the MAC regular season a perfect 7-0. The last two wins for WMU came at three and five as both
Lenhard Haupt and Olivarez earned victories. Haupt concluded the conference with an impressive 6-1 record, playing mainly at No. 3 & 4.
The Brown & Gold now prepares for the MAC Tournament next weekend which will take place at Buffalo, the 2017 conference regular season and tournament champions. The showdown is scheduled to begin on Friday, April 27 with the semifinals. The championship match is slated for Saturday, April 28.
