KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The University of Notre Dame has announced the hiring of Western Michigan women's soccer head coach Lauren Sinacola to the position of assistant coach.

Sinacola joins former WMU head coach Nate Norman, who was named head coach at UND in February. She spent three years as an assistant under Norman, helping the Broncos to Mid-American Conference Championships in 2013 and 2015. As a head coach she leaves with a 23-15-2 record, finishing in the top four of the MAC in each seasons and a trip to the MAC Semifinals in 2016.

"We want to thank Coach Sinacola for her great contributions to our program," said WMU Director of Athletics Kathy Beauregard. "We have been very proud of our women's soccer program under Lauren's leadership. Both on and off the field she has done tremendous work with those young women and we are very appreciative of her efforts. We wish her well as she joins Coach Norman at Notre Dame."

"I want to first thank President Edward Montgomery, Kathy Beauregard and the late Dennis Corbin for giving me the opportunity to lead this program for two years," said Sinacola. "I'm extremely grateful of the way this university has supported and guided me through the past five years as an assistant and head coach. I also want to thank the student athletes I have had an opportunity to coach, past and present. The young women that represent this program are outstanding people that are selfless on and off the field and in the community. They understand the importance of being a Bronco student-athlete and all of the success the program has had over the past five years on the field and in the classroom are because of their commitment to each other."

"I also need to thank my assistant coaches over the past two years," Sinacola added. "They are exceptional people and I am grateful for the relationships we have built working together. I would not be the coach I am today without their help. I will miss this team. Working with these young women has been such a blessing and I am confident this team will continue to grow and push forward."

Assistant coach Kyle Farris has been elevated to interim head coach. A search for the new head coach will begin immediately.
