Broncos Prepare for Midweek Games Against In-State Foes

KALAMAZOO, Mich. –  Continuing its homestand, Western Michigan baseball will host two midweek contests against in-state foes. The Broncos will take on Oakland on Tuesday, April 17 before squaring off with Michigan State on Wednesday, April 18. Both games are scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at Robert J. Bobb Stadium.

Scouting the Broncos
WMU heads into midweek action with an overall record of 14-15 and 4-6 in Mid-American Conference play. Last weekend, the Broncos defeated BGSU on Friday, 9-4 before the final two games of the series were canceled due to inclement weather and unplayable field conditions.

Reaching Double Digits
The Broncos have reached double digits hits the past two contests, recording a season-high 17 against Northern Illinois on April 8. Last Friday against BGSU, the Brown & Gold rattled off 16 hits.

Power Grys
Junior Nate Grys has provided the power at the plate for the Broncos this season. Grys leads the team in home runs (4) and RBIs (25). The Madison Heights, Mich., native also has a staggering .600 slugging percentage and .414 on-base percentage.

On the Reisinger
Redshirt senior RHP Andrew Reisinger has been dominant out of the bullpen this season for WMU, compiling a 6-0 record with a 2.37 ERA and 36 strikeouts. Reisinger's six victories ranks second in the MAC while his ERA ranks third.  

Last Time Out vs. Oakland
The Broncos and Golden Grizzlies last met back on May 10, 2017 with Oakland coming away with a 3-0 victory. On the road, WMU's offense was held to just three hits with junior catcher Jesse Forestell having a day at the plate going 1-for-2 with a double. WMU trails the all-time series, 9-7.

Last Time Out vs. Michigan State
WMU and Michigan State met earlier this season in East Lansing with the Broncos coming away with a 6-1 victory. The Brown & Gold scored six runs on seven hits with all six runs coming in the second inning. It was the second year in a row WMU has defeated MSU on the road and fifth win overall against a Big Ten Conference opponent since 2013.

Scouting Oakland
The Golden Grizzlies head into Tuesday's contest with an overall record of 10-21 and 7-7 in Horizon League play. Last weekend Oakland earned the series victory at Northern Kentucky after scoring 33 runs on 46 hits.

Offensively Ben Hart provides the power for the Golden Grizzlies, leading the team with four home runs and 26 RBIs. Mario Camilletti leads the team with a .315 batting average.

Scouting Michigan State
MSU has an overall record of 10-21 and is 3-5 in the Big Ten Conference. The Spartans split a pair with Valparaiso over the weekend, winning game one 5-4 before falling in game two 7-6. Against MAC schools this season, Michigan State is 0-2.

Justin Antoncic leads the Spartans offensively, registering a .308 batting average with four doubles, two triples and one home run. Antoncic also has a .411 slugging percentage and .403 on-base percentage. On the mound, the MSU pitching staff has
compiled a 4.41 ERA with 253 strikeouts.
