WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. – The Western Michigan men's tennis team clinched the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Mid-American Conference Tournament with a 5-2 win at Buffalo on Sunday morning. With the victory, the Broncos snapped the Bulls' three-match winning streak and are now riding a season-high eight-match winning streak to improve to 19-4 overall and 6-0 in the league.

Western Michigan took the doubles point early with a pair of 6-2 wins at No. 1 and No. 3. It was the second time this season that the Broncos earned the point from the Bulls. Sophomores
Jannik Opitz and
Kennosuke Nouchi clinched the point after defeating No. 72 doubles duo of Vaghela/Vodak as the two are now 2-0 together against nationally ranked opponents.
In singles, Opitz got the Broncos started early as the sophomore made quick work of his opponent, winning his ninth straight, at the two spot. After Buffalo pulled within one with a victory at three,
Eric Olivarez defeated Frisk 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5 before senior
Maik Steiner delivered the clinching win at one with a three-set victory. The last win for the Broncos came at six as
Matej Svjetlicic delivered a three-set win as he is now 21-2 this spring.
The Broncos conclude the regular season next Saturday, April 21 at Toledo. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. in Toledo, Ohio. The MAC Tournament is set to begin Friday, April 27 in Buffalo, N.Y.
