WMU Begins Eight-Game Homestand with Bowling Green Friday

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan baseball is set to host Bowling Green in a three-game series this weekend at Robert J. Bobb Stadium at Hyames Field to begin an eight-game homestand. The Broncos and Falcons begin the series with a doubleheader beginning on Friday, April 13 at 12:05 p.m.

Scouting the Broncos
Western Michigan heads into the weekend with an overall record of 13-15 and 3-6 in Mid-American Conference play. Last weekend, the Broncos won their first MAC series of the season, taking two of three from Northern Illinois.

Connor Smith Named MAC Baseball Co-Player of the Week
On Monday, junior Connor Smith was named MAC Baseball Co-Player of the Week after registering a staggering .571 batting average over the weekend at NIU. In Sunday's 10-4 victory, Smith tied a school record with six hits.

Smith Makes History
Against NIU on Sunday, Smith tied the school record and became just the fourth Bronco to register a six hit game. Smith was the first player since Adam Rosales back in 2005 to go 6-for-6 at the plate.

Second Inning Explosion
WMU has been dominant in the second inning this season outscoring its opponents, 18-4.

On the Reisinger
Redshirt senior RHP Andrew Reisinger has been consistent out of the bullpen this season for the Broncos. Reisinger ranks fourth in the MAC with a 2.38 ERA and is second in the conference in victories with five.

Nate "The Great" Grys
Junior Nate Grys has provided the power for the Broncos at the plate this season ranking fourth in the MAC with a .575 slugging percentage. Grys leads WMU with three home runs and 21 RBIs.

Looking Ahead
The weekend series against BGSU begins a season long eight game homestand for the Broncos. WMU will have two midweek games against in-state rivals Oakland and Michigan State before hosting MAC rival Central Michigan, April 20-22.

Scouting Bowling Green
Bowling Green heads into the weekend with an overall record of 9-22 and 4-5 in MAC play. During midweek action on Tuesday, the Falcons fell to Youngstown State at home, 9-6. Last weekend the Falcons dropped two of three to Miami.

The Falcons offensively are led by Ty Suntken who in 29 games this season is hitting a staggering .404. BGSU's Randy Righter leads the team in home runs (2) and runs (21) while Jeff Scott leads the team with 17 RBIs.
