CLEVELAND – On Thursday the Mid-American Conference announced that Western Michigan baseball junior outfielder
Nate Grys earned Player of the Week honors for the week of Feb. 27-March 5.
Grys in a three-game series against St. Bonaventure last weekend registered a .538 batting average with four doubles, six RBIs and a staggering .846 slugging percentage. Grys also delivered his second walk-off hit of the year, lacing a single into left field on Sunday to give the Broncos a 1-0 victory over the Bonnies.
The Madison Heights, Mich., native recorded mutli-RBIs in two of the three games against St. Bonaventure en route to a series sweep for the Broncos. In Friday's 9-2 victory over St. Bonaventure, Grys went 2-for-4 with a team-high three RBIs and a stolen base. The junior followed up his performance in game one by going 3-for-5 from the plate with two RBIs and two doubles in Saturday's 8-4 victory.
In the series finale, Grys went 2-for-4 and came up with the game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the tenth inning to help WMU defeat St. Bonaventure, 1-0. On the season, Grys leads the team in hits (18), doubles (7), triples (1) and RBIs (13).
