Eristavi Leads WMU but Broncos Fall at Florida Gulf Coast

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team suffered is second straight loss at Atlantic Sun Conference opponent Florida Gulf Coast on Monday afternoon with a score of 6-1 in Fort Myers.

The Eagles, who improved to 2-3 overall, took the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 to take a 1-0 lead. FGCU clinched the match by winning the first four singles matches, but redshirt senior Barbare Eristavi earned a comeback win at No. 2 for the Broncos. Eristavi defeated Julia Ascua 4-6, 6-2, 10-8 to improve to 9-9 this season and 7-5 this spring, with a five-match winning streak.

The Broncos take a break from the action before hosing five straight contests, starting with a doubleheader on Thursday, March 15 against UIC and Wayne State. Admission to all home tennis matches is free.
