Men's Tennis Falls at Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 39-ranked Western Michigan men's tennis team dropped its second consecutive match at Princeton on Sunday afternoon with a final score of 5-2 inside Jadwin Gym. With the loss, the Broncos conclude their nonconference schedule and are 11-4 overall to begin Mid-American Conference play.

The Tigers took the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 in that order, taking a 1-0 lead heading into singles play. Sophomore Jannik Opitz extended his winning streak to two with a win at 7-6, 6-1 win at No. 2 to even the score at 1-1.

Princeton pushed its lead and clinched the match with wins at six, three and one, all in that order. Nick Schnobel, Lenhard Haupt, and No. 88-ranked Maik Steiner took losses for WMU. Junior Matej Svjetlicic took the victory at No. 5 to push his winning streak to five after defeating Holden 6-4, 7-5 before Eric Olivarez fell at No. 4 to conclude the day.

The Broncos set their eyes on MAC play next, traveling to Toledo, Ohio to face Toledo on March 16 and Buffalo in Toledo on March, 17.
