STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. – The Western Michigan golf team saw improvements during the second round of the John Kirk/Panther Intercollegiate at Eagle's Landing Country Club on Tuesday.
After a disappointing start, WMU shaved 21 strokes off of its opening round total to shoot a 312 and now sit tied for 15th after a 36-hole total of 645 (+69). All five Broncos shot better than they did in the first round, led by Jasmine Chee and her 76. Chee now sits tied for 22nd after two-round total of 155 (+11).
Senior Julia Champion shot seven strokes better in the second round and now sits tied for 51st with a total of 161 (+17). Freshman Cameryn Lucia improved by four strokes and sits just behind Champion at 182 (+18). Fellow freshman Megan Watkins was seven strokes better than her performance Sunday and has combined for a 167, while the biggest improvement came from Claire Hernandez. Hernandez rebounded from a rough first round and improved by nine shots to record an 82 for a two-day total of 173.
The final round begins on Tuesday morning.
