KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan golf team returns to action on Sunday as it travels to Stokbridge, Ga., for the 25th annual John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate at Eagle's Landing Country Club, hosted by Georgia State.
WMU is one of 17 teams in a field that features eight teams ranked in the top 150 of the Golfstat rankings. Murray State is the highest-ranked team at 88, followed by Jacksonville at 91, Western Kentucky at 105, South Alabama at 108, Florida Gulf Coast at 120, Eastern Kentucky at 122, Winthrop at 128, and James Madison at 133. WMU currently ranks 172. Eagle's Landing is a par 72 course that measures out to 6,043 yards. Murray State won the meet last season, with WMU finishing in ninth.
"We look forward to this tournament each year," said head coach Elise Swartout-Mosher. "It's a great course with strong competition. The course takes a lot of course management, so sticking to our game plan and process will serve us well."
Western Michigan is coming off the program's first tournament win since 2011 and the first career win for Swartout-Mosher at the Low Country Invitational. Senior Julia Champion finished as the runner up, while Jasmine Chee took third place and Cameryn Lucia tied for fifth. All three were named to the LCI All-Tournament team.
WMU opens round one of the John Kirk Panther on Sunday morning at 9:15. Round two begins on Monday and the tournament wraps up on Tuesday.
