Women's Tennis Heads To Florida

KALAMAZOO, Mich.- The Western Michigan women's tennis team (7-4) heads south to Florida for two matches over spring break. The Broncos will face USF on Sunday, March 4 at 12:00 p.m. before traveling to play Florida Gulf Coast on Monday, March 5 at 5:00 p.m.

The Broncos coming off a dominate weekend after winning 7-0 in both its matches against Spring Arbor and Kalamazoo College. The Brown & Gold are currently on a five-match win streak, which started after a 7-0 victory over IUPUI on Saturday, February 3.
 
South Florida lost both of its matches last weekend against Oklahoma (3-4) and Tulsa (1-6) and enter the match with a 2-7 overall record and a 1-1 record in the American Athletic Conference. 
 
Florida Gulf Coast has a 2-4 overall record so far and are riding a two-match losing streak after falling to Georgia State and Tennessee last weekend. The Eagles defeated Florida Atlantic (4-3) and Middle Tennessee (5-2) for its only wins this season.   
 
In doubles, the duo of Katja Fevralev and Melina Lyubomirova lead the team in wins during dual match play as the pair hold a 3-4 record, all at No. 1. The pair of Barbare Eristavi and Valeria Riegraf are tied for second on the team with two wins, the duo is also 1-0 at No. 1. Partners Denise Azcui and Gabriela Slavova played together for the first time last weekend as they picked up two wins at No. 2 and No. 3 to hold an undefeated record so far.
 
In singles, Lyubomirova has been the main No. 1 player for the Bronocs as she holds a 9-9 record, including a record of 5-2 at the one. Azcui leads the charge in the overall department with a 10-7 record overall highlighted by an undefeated 4-0 record at No. 2.
 
Western Michigan is back home for three matches before beginning Mid-American Conference. The Broncos host UIC (March 15), Wayne State (March 22) and Bradley (March 24) before welcoming Northern Illinois (March 30).  Depending on weather, WMU will play either inside West Hills or outside on the Sorensen Courts. Admission to all home tennis matches is free.
