Gymnastics Closes Out Regular Season at Eastern Michigan on Friday

KALAMAZOO, Mich. –  With one crucial meet left in the season before the Mid-American Conference Championships, the Western Michigan gymnastics team travels to Eastern Michigan on Friday, March 16. The dual meet is the third meet in seven days for the Broncos as the action starts at 6 p.m. inside the Convocation Center.

BRONCOS PEAKING AT THE RIGHT TIME
After its best meet of the year against Ball State, WMU followed that up with its 15th highest team score in program history of 195.275 on Tuesday but the Broncos fell just short to UIC. The Brown & Gold also scored a 48.975 event total on the vault and a 49.225 on the floor that were the eighth and sixth best in WMU history.

Junior Rachael Underwood recorded an impressive 9.950 on the floor exercise, as the score is the second highest in program history. With the help of the floor routine, Underwood claimed the all-around for her second consecutive meet on a score of 39.175. She also tied for second place overall on the vault with a career-high 9.850 while taking eighth on bars (9.725) and seventh on the balance beam (9.650).

Senior Jessica Juncaj scored the second highest program score on the beam with a 9.925, including a perfect 10.0 from one of the judges. Juncaj took the event with the career-high along with leading the Broncos on the uneven bars on a 9.825. She finished the day tying a career-best and tying for third overall on the floor exercise (9.825).

SCOUTING REPORT
Western Michigan has a season-average score of 194.423 through 10 meets and ranks 44th in the country. The Broncos' season high was a 196.075 was this past Saturday against Ball State. EMU scored a 195.725 as the Eagles took third in a quad meet hosted by Temple this past Sunday. Eastern Michigan sits 48th nationally and will look to improve on its regional qualifying score during its last meet of the season.

ALL-TIME SERIES
The Eagles hold the edge over the Broncos in the all-time series history and have won 10 of the last 14 meetings, including last year's in Kalamazoo. The Broncos defeated EMU back on Feb. 20, 2015 inside University Arena with a score of 196.175-195.575.

MAC WEEKLY HONORS
Sophomore Amelia Mohler was tabbed Mid-American Conference Specialist of the Week this past with her performance against Ball State. She became just the fourth Bronco ever to accomplish the feat, joining Andrea Ruhe, former MAC champion Cherisse Marier and Jessie Peszek. Mohler's previous career high was a 9.900, recorded earlier this season at Central Michigan. Mohler's performance helped WMU defeat the visiting Cardinals 196.075 to 195.400 in a Mid-American Conference dual.
