Gymnastics Hosts UIC Tuesday in Final Home Meet

KALAMAZOO, Mich. –  Coming off a big Mid-American Conference win this past Saturday, the Western Michigan gymnastics team returns to University Arena to host its second meet in four days, welcoming non-conference opponent UIC Tuesday. It will be the final home meet of the season for the Broncos and the action begins at 6 p.m. Admission to all Bronco home gymnastics meets is free.

BRONCOS POST BIG SCORES AGAINST BALL STATE
WMU team had its best meet of the year, defeating visiting Ball State 196.075 to 195.400 on Saturday. The Broncos' 196.075 tied for the second highest team score in school history and WMU's 49.150 event total on the uneven bars was fourth best in program history. The Broncos had the top individual finisher in each event and led start to finish in the meet.

Junior Rachael Underwood set a new school record in the all-around with a 39.350. She established the previous mark of 39.325 last year at the MAC Championships. Underwood took first on the vault (9.850), sixth on the bars (9.775), fifth on beam (9.800) and won the floor exercise with a 9.925. Her vault tied a career high and her floor performance set a new personal best. The floor score tied for second highest in school history and she was just the third ever Bronco to record the score, joining Christy Sassic and Laura Ransing.

In her only event, sophomore Amelia Mohler won the uneven bars and tied the WMU school record with a 9.925. She became just the fourth Bronco ever to accomplish the feat, joining Andrea Ruhe, former MAC champion Cherisse Marier and Jessie Peszek. Mohler's previous career high was a 9.900, recorded earlier this season at Central Michigan.

SCOUTING REPORT
Western Michigan has a season-average score of 194.328 and a regional qualifying score (RQS) of 194.875. The Broncos's season high was a 196.075 was this past Saturday against Ball State. UIC scored a season-high 194.725 this past Sunday in a quad meet at home. The Flames have a a season-average score of 193.633 and a regional qualifying score (RQS) of 193.935.

WE MEET AGAIN
Tuesday will be the second time this season Western Michigan and UIC have faced one another. WMU also opened the season against UIC on Jan. 14, hosting the Flames in Kalamazoo, and came away with a 193.425 to 193.000 victory. The Broncos edged UIC in three of the four events; the Flames held the upper hand in the uneven bars. WMU had the top individual finisher in all four events, as well as the all-around. Junior Rachael Underwood won the vault, beam, floor and all-around and freshman Stacie Harrison took first on the bars.

MAC WEEKLY HONORS
Senior Kira Hoy was tabbed Mid-American Conference Specialist of the Week three weeks ago with her performance at Ohio State. Hoy scored a career-best on the beam and owned her first event of the season. Sophomore Amelia Mohler was pegged Specialist of the Week on Jan. 23 after scoring a 9.900 on the bars in collegiate debut against Central Michigan on Jan. 20.
 
WHAT LIES AHEAD
Western Michigan heads to Eastern Michigan on Friday, March 16 for the last MAC dual of the season at 6 p.m. The Broncos travel to Mount Pleasant for the MAC Championships, hosted by Central Michigan on Saturday, March 24.
