COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Western Michigan forward Ethen Frank has been named National Collegiate Hockey Conference Freshman of the Week for his performance in WMU's split at Miami.
Frank had three goals on the weekend and finished with a +2 plus/minus as the Broncos maintained a spot in the league's top four, sitting alone in third place. On Friday he netted his third goal of the season in a 4-2 loss against the RedHawks. On Saturday he single-handedly brought the Broncos back from a 2-0 deficit to tie it up at 2-2 with two goals in the second period. His first goal came at 3:41 in the second period after getting the puck from Austin Rueschhoff and faking out Miami goalie Ryan Larkin on a brief breakaway. He then tied the game up at 16:00 when Dawson DiPietro left a drop pass on a rush for him and he fired it past Larkin on his glove side.
Lawton Courtnall added the game-winning goal shortly after Frank completed his first career multi-point game.
Western Michigan is off this weekend and hosts No. 4 St. Cloud State next Friday and Saturday at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are available by calling 1-888-4-WMUTIX and online at WMUBroncos.com/tickets.
