Jacob Piechota Named MAC Co-Pitcher of the Week

CLEVELAND – As announced by the league office on Tuesday, Western Michigan baseball senior LHP Jacob Piechota was named Mid-American Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week.

Piechota earned his first victory of the season last Sunday against Ivy League preseason favorite, Yale at the Campbell Invitational in Buies Creek, N.C. The Batavia, Ill., native went six innings, allowing no runs on four hits while striking out six. Piechota's six strikeouts tied his career-high.

During the outing against the Bulldogs, Piechota retired eight straight batters and gave up just one walk on 81 pitches. The senior LHP shutout the Yale offense, marking the first time the Bulldogs were shutout in a regular season game since April 18, 2015.

On the mound this season, Piechota leads the Broncos in innings pitched (11.0) and ERA (2.45). The 2.45 ERA ranks 10th in the MAC. With the win over Yale, Piechota earned his 15h career victory.

Western Michigan heads to the Sunshine State on Friday for a three-game series against Saint Bonaventure beginning on Friday, March 2 at 11:00 a.m. The Broncos will continue its annual Florida trip with eight games in nine days at the Snowbird Classic.
