VALPARAISO, Ind. – No. 31 Western Michigan men's tennis returned to its winning ways on Friday afternoon after defeating Valparaiso 6-1, on the road, inside the Match Point Tennis Complex. The Broncos improve to 9-2 overall and will return home Sunday, Feb. 25 to host a doubleheader against Dayton and Ferris State.

The day was mostly all Western Michigan as the team began the match sweeping the doubles point. Doubles partners
Eric Olivarez and
Nick Schnobel continued their dominance at the No. 2 spot, winning 7-5 and improving their record to 11-5 overall and 5-1 in dual match play.
In singles, the Broncos received wins in all but one match with wins coming at four, five, one, six and two, all in that order. All Western Michigan players put their opponent down in two sets including No. 88-ranked
Maik Steiner who defeated Chad Kissell with a score of 6-1, 7-5 as the senior is now 20-6 overall this season. After seeing his 9-match winning streak snapped at No. 13 Michigan last time out, junior
Matej Svjetlicic defeated Langston at No. 6 and is now tied with
Jannik Opitz for second on the team with 17 wins overall. Svjetlicic also holds an impressive 10-1 record this spring.
Kennosuke Nouchi,
Lenhard Haupt and
Eric Olivarez also picked up wins to boost the Broncos over the Crusaders as WMU continues its strong spring season.
The Broncos return home Sunday, Feb. 25 to host a doubleheader against Dayton and Ferris State. First serves are set for 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. inside West Hills. Admission to all home tennis matches is free.
