CLEVELAND, Ohio – For the second straight week, No. 88-ranked
Maik Steiner, a senior on the No. 31-ranked Western Michigan men's tennis team, was named the Mid-American Conference Singles Player of the Week the league office announced Wednesday evening.

Steiner played a big role last weekend for the Broncos, helping WMU improve to 8-2 on the season and 5-0 at home. The Brown & Gold defeated William & Mary (6-1) in dominate fashion on Saturday, Feb. 17 before dropping their first match since Jan. 20 at No. 13-ranked Michigan on Sunday, Feb. 18.
The German picked up his 19th overall win, including his sixth at No. 1 this spring and fourth straight after defeating the Tribe's Christian Cargil 6-1, 6-2. He followed that up by taking No. 42-ranked Hua of Michigan to the third set at No. 1 before the match was called. The senior leads all Broncos with an overall record of 19-6 and 6-2 this spring, all of which come at the one spot.
The MAC Player of the Week is the third overall for the Brown & Gold this season as Steiner has racked up two honors while sophomore
Jannik Opitz was named singles player of the week back on Jan. 24.
Western Michigan prepares for a busy three-match weekend as the Broncos head to Valparaiso on Feb. 23 at 3 p.m. (EST) before hosting a doubleheader on Sunday, Feb. 25 against Dayton and Ferris State inside West Hills. First serves for Sunday are set for 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Admission to all home tennis matches is free.
